Merchant's Lane of Petaling Street

Merchant's Lane
“Don’t we already have more than enough rechargeable devices;
first laptops, then smart phones and now headphones?”

Oh the great Merchant’s Lane, I better be careful with my words before I upset people and emails would be pouring in on how bias I am towards hugely popular establishments. Truth be told, there is no entity that is more virtuous than The Snob because the simple fact remains, he can’t be bought. Call it humour or a spit in the faces of greedy businessmen, The Snob is here to stay.

Well it is terrible. Very much like LOKL they’re catered to drones who work nearby instead of those who’d like to have coffee just because it is a Monday. I clearly brought the wrong car since I took a full five minutes to squeeze next to a wall full of rebellious artwork. Then made my way under the cruel sun and into ML.

Things are much better once you're inside. I’ve described cafes to be sanctuaries or hidden gems but none of them could hold a candle to this one.. This one really takes me to a time after the last world war and is a historically important time that defines the Kuala Lumpur of old. Much like the National Monument, Merchant’s teleports one to a time where we see a bright future instead of a gloomy one.

What about the coffee? I’ve got to give it to them, it is hugely admirable the attention of detail they put into every single cup (espresso with milk at RM 11). Ingenious furnishing and respectable coffee. It is one of.. if not the only cafe that lives up to the hype. On that bombshell, kudos to Merchant’s Lane.
